TMST Question: What is your favorite holiday and what do you do to celebrate?
I’m not a holiday person. I wish I was a holiday person. My grandmother was a holiday person and I can remember her excitement surrounding all the major holidays. She would always decorate the house for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, Easter, 4th of July, Halloween, and Thanksgiving. Her favorite was Halloween. But unfortunately her excitement for holidays did not trickle down to me.
My favorite holidays are the ones that I spend with family. So, there are the notable holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving. But there was a certain period when I was growing up, when me and my whole family would have a big family day for Memorial Days. We would all get on a ferry and take a trip over to Angel’s Island and spend the barbecue, riding bikes on the trails, and playing games. We don’t do that anymore, but for a long time, I always looked forward to Memorial Day.
Now, our family holidays are spent mostly with immediate family and while I don’t have the same anticipation for the day like I did in the past, I still look forward to them. It’s nice to gather and enjoy the company of loved ones.
Now it’s your turn, Dear Reader. What’s your favorite holiday and what do you do to celebrate?
